A great day

So in case you missed it, I have kind of been at the end of my rope lately. Friday's post pretty much sums up how I've been feeling. So when our Saturday started with a trip to the Doctor's on Saturday morning, and with yet another prescription for antibiotics and Ventolin for Georgie, my expectations for the weekend were not high.

However, yesterday was amazing. The best day I have had in a very long time.

Saturday night was a horrible night with the kids. They were up and down all night. Shane and I got very little sleep. So when we woke up on Sunday morning, Shane decided we were not going to church. Then I had the bright idea of ringing my Mum to see if she wouldn't mind taking the kids to church for us. (I have the best Mum in the world, I know).

So instead of church on Sunday morning, Shane and I slept. And it was good. Then we decided to go out and have coffee.

When church was over, My Mum brought the kids to the coffee shop, and while I was feeding Charlie there, I mentioned that we would love to see The Avengers. It was on at lunchtime, but I just idly said it as a dream, not really thinking that we would be able to go. But Mum said "Why not?" and (because she is a saint) she took the kids back to her house. So while she and my Dad looked after my babies (again!) Shane and I went to the movies and watched The Avengers.

It's the first time I've been to the movies in about 12 months, and it was just so nice. It helped that it is a really good movie. I think I would have enjoyed myself even if it had been terrible. But the fact that it was so funny, and so well done, just made the day even better.

After the movie was finished we went and picked up our two very tired children, and Georgie had a little afternoon nap. Once she woke up, we decided to pop around and see Shane's parents, and then we ended up playing on the xbox connect, and staying for dinner.

Dinner at Granny Kay's house.

It was such a fun night. Georgie toddled around their house with a child sized shopping trolley, emptied out her Granny Kay's pantry, and thought it was pretty funny when Mummy and Daddy were boxing against one another, and Charlie got properly acquainted with his Grandad.

It was so unexpected. You couldn't have planned a day like that. But it was just exactly what I needed. It was so nice to spend a day with Shane. It made me remember how much I like him. I am so grateful for family, and I am so glad for a great day.

My cup? It runneth over...

I am living the haze of the sleep-deprived, hormonal, moody, exhausted, slightly neurotic, just-had-a-baby, Mother. I have so much to do, and am so tired, and I should really be sleeping instead of sittting here at the computer. But I just wanted to say this:

I am beyond grateful. For these people, my people. Shane, Georgie and Charlie. My world is so small, but so precious. At times it feels like they are taking everything from me... but I wouldn't change this. It is absolutely priceless. These days, although they may be hard, are what it's all about.

I am so glad for what I have.

I am also so grateful for the people around me who are keeping me up. My husband, who is doing his best, even though he bears the brunt of my hormonal outbursts. My sisters, who are helping in so many ways. And my Mum. She is doing so much for our little family, and so much for me. I am so grateful for the Mother I was blessed with. I hope I can be such a Mother one day. She has just been taking care of me, in so many ways. I cannot thank her enough. Words just can't express it.

To everyone who is helping keep out little family going at the moment,

A post of little importance about the good stuff

This weekend has been full. Georgie and I went to city with my Mum and Dad. Mostly just because we could. Shane is away doing courses and having work Christmas parties. I was lonely, Mum wanted a haircut, Dad wanted to visit a friend, and we all could have used the opportunity to get out of town and do some Christmas shopping. So we went.

It was a crazy hectic jumble of activity. Some hard bits, but mostly good. I am so glad for my parents. Don't get me wrong, there were times when I wanted to tell Dad off for the way he drives my car, and the more time I spend with him the more I am convinced that I married my father (in a non-creepy way). It is just really noticeable that Shane and Dad share some traits that drive me crazy. But mostly, my parents are awesome. And it was really nice to be taken care of a little, you know? I see a lot of my family because we all live in the same town, but there is something that is so nice about staying with family when you've got kids. It's like your parental responsibilities are lifted a bit and you revert back to being your childhood self. I needed that.

Spending time with my Mum and Dad like that made me realise how good my parents have been to me. It also made me realise how good God has been to me. I think one of the best blessings any child can have is to have parents who love God. I know no parent is perfect, and people make mistakes (Mum and Dad made heaps of them!) but the most important thing they never stopped doing was love God. Throughout all of my life, I have always known that. They stuffed up lots. But I think God can do an awful lot of fixing when he is offered a family's heart. I know I'm going to do damage as a Mummy. It's inevitable. But I hope I never stop holding onto God with one hand and my children with the other.

Georgie was all kinds of good while we were away. Granted she did get grumpy at times, (after all she's a kid), and it wasn't great when she got a nappy rash from teething- it hurt her so much poor button! But she was fantastic in the car, and I think she really enjoyed that time with her Grandma and Poppy. Plus, she has a new word she is using a fair bit. "Yish!" (yes). It is so cute when she says it, and it's funny that she has said yes before no. Fingers crossed she's setting a pattern for the future. But I doubt it, she's a willful little thing. However, she is super lovely at the moment.

I'm kind of sad, but happy at the same time. Because I am enjoying, (relishing, savouring!) this time with her. She is so absolutely delightful. But it is almost bittersweet. I am trying to squeeze everything good I can out of this time because I know it will never be just Georgie and me again. I'm happy because I do want this baby, and am getting quite excited at the idea of another little squishy newborn, but I get very sad at the same time for what we will miss and how hard it is going to be on my little girl.

But for now. It is nice to be home. I am missing Shane, so much. I feel a little disconnected from him. Telephone is just not the same. I really want to just be together again. But, mostly it is good to be back. The little girl went to bed tonight with nary a peep, and I like my space.

It was a pretty good weekend.

Oh, and please, please go vote for me (if you don't mind?) I would so love to feel a bit special!

Happy Birthday Mum!

Today it's my Mum's birthday. I am more grateful for her than I can say. She helps me out so much especially with Georgie and she just is... you know? I am so glad Georgie has grandparents that love her to bits. I don't know how sometimes, but she did something right!

Grateful for my parents

It's funny that I've decided to write a Grateful post and link up with Maxabella for her Grateful Saturday's post. Because this week life has thrown me a few curve balls.

Georgie has a cold, and I won't go into a lot of details, but suffice to say Shane's family is undergoing a lot of upheaval, and I am missing him terribly- he has worked and been away for 30 of the last 34 days (so believe that when I talk about my husband working away a lot and how hard it is I am not exaggerating!).

However, it seems like there is always something to help lift your spirits when things are tough.

So this week I am really grateful for my parents.

I know that however hard things are, they would be so much harder without my parents. My Mum is... just brilliant. I really can't adequately describe how good my Mum is. It's funny, but I am only now realising how good our relationship is. Not everyone gets along as well with their Mother as I do. And so I am just so grateful for our relationship and all that she has done (and continues to do) for me.

I am also really grateful for my Dad. Growing up, Dad kind of kept well away. It's not like he was absent, but I think he struggled a little with raising and relating to four daughters. He was also very much part of the generation where a man's job was to provide food on the table. So in a way, he kind of left much of the parenting up to Mum. But now, Dad has just... changed an awful lot. He still tends to hand the phone over to Mum when I call, but we definitely have a much closer relationship. He absolutely adores Georgie, and he's just much more thoughtful and much softer than he's ever been.

Last night Dad actually babysat Georgie for me while Mum and my sisters and I went out to our local performing arts production on Grease. It wasn't a huge deal as I already had her in bed when he arrived and she slept the whole time. But still it was just so nice to get out for the night. It was a good night and I'm really glad that I got to go. I don't think I ever would have imagined my Dad babysitting my children for me when I was younger.

So right now I'm just so grateful for my parents. I'm glad that they are close and I'm grateful not just for all that they do, but for the fact that I have such a good relationship with them.

Riding with Grandpa

The other day Shane's Dad took Georgie on the four-wheeler. He was so proud of himself! He was very careful, but it is not an experience I will care to repeat! The whole time I was thinking "That's my baby!" Poppy is already trying to teach her "Bike! Bike!" I'm not sure how I'll deal with it when she is bigger and does want to go for a ride. They are just not very safe.... but I'll just deal with that when it happens.

This one I love! She was on for a couple of minutes and then decided she wanted off, Now! ( I'm hoping that continues)

In other news. I am very flat lately. Shane has been working too much and we are a bit lonely. Georgie is sitting up all the time now and she hardly ever falls over now! She is also so close to crawling. It's so cute! At the moment, she's doing  little caterpillar belly flops, she gets up on all fours and then flops herself forward to get where she wants to go. We are also swimming an awful lot because it's so darn hot here!  I will have to put some new pictures up sometime soon of how big she's getting and what we're up to- but that will happen eventually.

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Yesterday was my Mum's birthday. I went out for dinner with Mum, Dad and my sisters while Shane stayed home with Georgie. I had had a really bad day with her and was super stressed so I was really grateful to him but I was also a little worried about how she would go for him as she has been very grumpy lately with lots of green poo- Also why does nobody tell you about how much you are going to have to watch what you eat when you breastfeed? Poor Georgie and I have learned the hard way about what I can and cannot eat, and we're still learning!

But anyway, while I was out I texted Shane asking if everything was okay, this is the sms I got back:

"Ur missing heaps! So far she has sat up, started to crawl, she then began to walk, little bugger then saddled up the pup rode around the back yard then did a back flip stopped, n said dad stop sending mummy silly text messages! All is good, have fun!"

Georgie, I love your Dad so much, he is a hilarious wonderful man. He loves you very much.
