Listography - Cartoon Characters from my youth

I decided to link up with Kate Takes Five for her Listography linky when I saw what the theme this week was. Cartoon characters from your youth? Fun times. So after lots of YouTube and google- I have found them! Some of mine aren't cartoons, but they all are the TV shows that I used to watch as a child.

1. Gumby

It may have taken me a while to find this little guy, I thought his name was Gumpy. Regardless, now I look back, this green dude is seriously weird.

2. Mr Squiggle

That theme song. I can still recite the whole damn thing. This show was pretty awesome. When playing with Georgie, I will often dangle her by her legs and chant 'Upside down! Upside down! Everything's upside down these days!'. They should totally bring Mr Squiggle back.

3. The Greatest Adventure: Stories from the Bible

This was a direct-to-video series produced by Hanna-Barbera. It was about three adventurers. Architects, Derek and Margo, and 'their nomad friend Moki' who used to travel back in time to watch biblical events unfold.

My Grandma had the videos and the show really reminds me of rainy days spent watching TV in her lounge room. I have no idea how factual it was but as a child I enjoyed it. This show evokes so many memories.

4. Captain Planet

Captain Planet, he's our hero.... gonna take pollution down to zero. I used to LOVE this show. It's really quite dodgy, and it was quite ahead of it's time if you think about it. A show in the 90's all about taking care of the planet? I'm surprised that they haven't brought it back. My cousins and I used to run around my backyard playing it out. We used little bathroom o-rings as our planateer rings and my cousin Emma and I both always wanted to be Linka (Oh yeah, we were cool).

You know what really ticks me off about this show now though? There wasn't a planateer from Australia! They had 5 kids from all corners of the globe, which should be one from each continent, but instead they had two from America, one from North and one from South. Rude!

5. The Secret World of Alex Mack

Again, this is not a cartoon. But Alex Mack is just the show that was my pre-teen and young teenage years. I wanted to be her. She was just so cool. Remember her quirky hats? I used to try to dress like her, and in my secret fantasies I was totally like her. Good times. Before vampires and werewolves and wizards and witches. Just classic 90's dagginess at its best.

So that's my list. So many memories. Why not link up with Kate and share your own?

But before you do, could you please pop over to the Circle of Mums page and vote for me?

A post in which I display other people's creativity... (I've recently discovered pinterest)

This week has been super tough. Shane has been away for 41 out of the past 46 days... it's taking it's toll a little. We are so looking forward to some (well deserved) time off. My back has also been playing up majorly and I could hardly walk this morning, but thankfully there are such wonderful people as Physiotherapists and at least this is only a pregnancy related thing for me and not long term!

But in the meantime, I thought I'd share some awesomeness with some things that have inspired and amused me this week...

Everything displayed here was found on Pinterest (a great big, fun time waster if ever there was one) come on over and see all the other pretties if you like.... plus I'm there too!

An ode to my washing machine

Okay. This needs a little bit of an explanation.

Basically, my washing machine is of the devil. A couple of years ago our (old, old, old) washing machine carked it. And we were both working and money was not so tight so we went out and bought a new one. It was all shiny and pretty with an LCD screen and new-fangled gadgetry. But it had one distinguishing feature. It had no agitator*. We were assured this was a new high-tech thing that would ensure our happiness and well-being and mean that the clothes were taken better care of.

We were lied to.

Because there is no agitator, the clothes are not distributed easily. So the freaking things goes out of balance often. Especially when you wash towels or sheets or quilt covers or dogs beds. The devil-machine beeps, and beeps and beeps, until you go fix the load (or turn it off because you're about ready to smash it).

It shows you this screen. And beeps, and beeps and beeps. (Can you tell the beeping really gets to me?)

So here is my ode:

Oh washing machine of woe,
How I loathe and despise you so!
You without your agitator,
which means you don't eat clothes like an alligator,
The great deceiver with your LCD screen
You just turned out to be really mean.
I though that being so big and bare,
Meant I would wash clothes without a care.
Instead you get off balance
And beep, beep, beep at every chance
Begging me to fix your load.
with a sound which makes my happiness erode.
How I detest the girl that sold you to me,
With her smile and freaking guarantee.
She said she had one just like you,
And it worked really well.
Well to that girl, I say perhaps yours did.
But mine is a fiend from hell!
Alas I cannot get rid of you
(Although I would dearly love to)
Until you've worked and paid your dues,
Or else I take to you with a sledgehammer.

*that thingy in the middle that sticks up.

This is a long one people, but it's worth it if you like hearing about other's stupidity

I seem to have a talent for bumbling from one disaster to another, and today I am going to share things that will prove to you once and for all that I am just nuts, plain and simple.

Before I do though, a little back story. When Shane and I were engaged, I threw a bridal magazine at him. He ended up with an extremely fat lip and a great wedding story. It was awful. Also, my sister and brother in law live next door to us in the house that my Grandmother used to own. They are renting it, but it is in the process of being sold and my Uncles are doing maintenance on it. You're probably going 'What the?' But I promise you, this has a point.

So, on Tuesday night I was on the computer and Shane came in and wanted to use it. I was getting ready to go to bed but was being a bit silly and wanted a hug first. What followed was a wrestling, tickling match (and I'm sure we're not the only ones who are stupid like this!) but anyway, Shane was trying to grab my nose to pull it and it just seemed so terribly funny to me that I was in the midst of hysterical giggles, then I picked up a dessert spoon nearby from a recently finished bowl of ice cream and was trying to rap him on the knuckles with it (and really, I should have spotted the stupid there) but instead, he managed to get a hold of my nose and then I accidentally sent the spoon flailing.

It hit him across the face. Right in the eye.

Cue, screaming and crying- because he really had been whopped hard. We raced into the bathroom to try and inspect the damage and his eye was swollen and red with a cut above the other one. Apparently there was a fair bit of force behind the spoon. I grabbed a bag of frozen peas and, sobbing and crying "I'm so sorry honey!" I put it on his eye. By this time Georgie had woken up with all the noise and then I picked her up and we decided to go up to the hospital because you don't mess with eyes.

I drove up to the hospital, and  as I was driving all kinds of crazy was spewing forth "Oh God! You're going to go blind in one eye and it's not funny, (hiccup) because then you'll blame me and you'll never be able to forgive me (sob) and we'll have to get a divorce!" And "What if you can't work? What will we do?" And seriously, who does stuff like this? (Twice!) I am just my own special brand of crazy.

Anyway, we got to the hospital and a nurse admitted us and as soon as she heard what happened she could not stop laughing and it was not funny!! She checked his eyesight out which was fine (Thank God!) but we had to wait for a doctor anyway just to make sure. *Side note- when I said it could have just as easily been me, she said "Well it's a good job it wasn't because then we would have had to get the police involved" and I'm thinking, but what about battered husbands too? Fortunately, I think they could tell we were just two silly, silly people.

Anyway, after an hour (when Georgie was well and truly out of steam) the doctor came and checked his eye and eyesight again and then gave Shane some eye drops and ointment, and told Shane he  was really lucky... (great way to make me feel worse) We got home at midnight and poor Shane crashed for a very uncomfortable night and then I finally got Georgie back to sleep.

He thinks he's so funny.... portrait of a battered husband

I really did hurt him hey? So now he's alternating between thinking it's funny, and making me feel super guilty, blaming me for an extremely sore eye.

But wait, there's more!!

The next morning, after Shane had gone to work, I'd just got out of the shower while Georgie was having her morning nap. I'd put my bra in the dryer for five seconds just to dry out the morning dew and I did my hair and just put on my underwear.

Now, our laundry is outside the back door, just off the deck. Our yard is reasonably secluded, most of the neighbours can't see in. Except for my sister and her husband next door.

So anyway, I went to the back door and ducked my head out and decided that I should be fine to do a quick half-nudie run to get my bra. My sister and her husband would both be at work and all the other neighbours wouldn't be able to see anything. There was nobody around.

Can't you just guess what's coming next?

So I dash outside into the laundry and grab my bra, I had just stepped through the laundry door and was standing on the back deck, exposed, when I caught sight of my Uncle Ken. Next door. In the backyard. With a  complete view. He turned his back as soon as I saw him and I raced back into the laundry. I sat there for a few minutes with my face buried thinking 'What the hell do I do now?' and eventually got on my hands and knees and crawled back into the house.

Oh, but this stories not over yet, friends.

So, that afternoon, I went over to Mum's and recounted the story for her amusement. That night, I got a phone call from Mum.

"I just phoned your Uncle Ken and he didn't see anything."

Mum!!!

"He said he would have put his glasses on if he'd known!"

Awesome. Just awesome.

So yeah.... that is my terrible tale of woe and stupidity. I am sure there are people who are normal and don't do things like this. I swear some days I was just put on this earth for God's amusement. One day I just want to be a grown up. Just a nice normal grown up. Is that too much to ask?

Confession: I am a scrubsaholic

I love, love, LOVE the television show scrubs. I have all of the seasons and have watched it ever since season 1. This right here? My favorite scene from any episode ever!

Also, I have a baby who is sick and will not sleep and I'm about ready to.... do something. Maybe inhale a kilogram of chocolate (spot the emotional eater here!) I have put her to sleep 4 times in the past 2 hours. She just keeps waking up. And.... there she goes again.

This really sucks.

A post in which I am completely stripped of my dignity, bravery and sanity... (and will probably be sued by PETA)

I am girl.

I don't do mice or rats or grasshoppers or spiders.

That's why I have a husband.

And I'm fine with that.

But my husband works away. And some days it is beyond crap. Like today. Last night he came home for one night. (One night out of like, the past million that he has been away) But Georgie is sick and did not want to go to sleep and then I burned dessert, because I was too busy trying to put Georgie to sleep. It was just all bad my friends, I'm telling you.

It's funny, I was actually pretty angry with God about the whole thing- going "Why!? Why!? When we only have one night and he works away and it's not fair and some women don't even appreciate their husbands! When you could have had Georgie sleep and we could have had time together!" I swear, if I could have, I would have punched God in the face. I was one angry angry ant.

But then, after we had (finally) gotten Georgie to sleep and were completely exhausted and had two minutes together before Shane had to go to bed. I was reminded. He is not a genie. He does not automatically give us what we want. Just what we need.

It still sucked though.

But anyway, back to the story.

So this morning, I woke up with Shane at four in the morning (yes, I know!) and made his lunch and had a cup of coffee with him and said goodbye and then he left at five to be back out at work by six. I was about to head back to bed because Georgie was (amazingly) still asleep.

And then a mousetrap went off.

Now look I'm not a complete sook, I will deal with mice in traps. I hate doing it, but I can. But this mouse didn't get caught in the trap. Not all of him anyway. Not the bits that mattered.

The poor thing was screeching and squealing with his legs half crushed in the trap. So I decided to try to hit it. I would have been fine with just letting it go if it was alright, but this thing had a broken leg, I couldn't just leave it. So I picked up a poker from the fireplace and tried to whack it. I managed to whack the trap instead and the mouse got free. Panicking, it ran away from me, but it couldn't run properly so it was doing a mad half-run, half slide. Then it hid behind a table. I tried to whack it again and hit the mark this time but when the poker connected with the little mouse body I felt horridly sick and decided I just couldn't do it.

I walked past Chloe, who was cowering in a corner and hissed ' You are not a dog!' and then rang Shane who was about half an hour away by this point, in tears, begging him to come home. He was unfortunately, unable to oblige. (I am so sick of him being away) I discussed the idea of drowning it with him and he said that sounded like a good idea. Muttering "this is not my job!" I hung up the phone and filled up a bucket of water in the laundry and picked up the tongs from the fireplace to try to pick up the wounded mouse.

The wounded mouse suddenly decided that it felt much better and started running away, so I chased it and managed to corner the damn thing behind a wooden box. Then I went 'what the hell do I do now?'. So I tried maniacally waving the poker at it from one side of the box so that it would run out the other side. This was not very effective. Then I tried to move the box out from the wall and the mouse hid behind a piece of paper behind the box. So I (being the intelligent being that I am) got the bright idea of throwing something heavy on it and squishing it.

I picked up one of Shane's big biblical commentaries and threw it on said mouse. It did not hit said mouse very accurately but did manage to trap it's lower body. Then I picked up a heavy bible and threw it as well. This was more effective and squished the mouse. So then, in tears and feeling like the most horrible person in the world, I watched the mouse make it's last pathetic little bids for freedom while it lay dying.

Once the mouse was very dead. I tried to scoop it up with the a dustpan, and had carried it partway to the door when the mouse gave one final death twitch. I got a fright and flung the mouse in the air, then it landed on the floor, and smudged a teeny bit of blood from it's crushed internal organs on the tile. I decided I could not face the thought of getting close enough to it to scoop it up again and swept it the rest of the way out the door and into the garden.

Then I collapsed in a big heap on the floor and cried.

And now, since I feel so sick and shattered, I cannot go to sleep, so I will sit on my chair and wait for Georgie (who, amazingly enough, slept through the ruckus) to wake up, and surf the internet to read other women's mouse stories and make myself feel much better.

All this before 6am.

It's going to be a great day.

It is SO bedtime....

I was planning on doing a fancy-pants-photo-filled Georgina update post, but I've decided that it is probably a terrible idea, and here's why....

Just two seconds ago as I was flicking through twitter I came across this blog, (someone I follow had a link to it) and there was a post that had the lyrics of 'Defying Gravity' a song from Wicked. Here is the first verse of the song.

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules
Of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes: and leap!

Here is what I saw:

Something has changed within me
Something is not the same
I'm through with playing by the rules
Of someone else's game
Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my legs: and leap!

I did a double take because What the? but yeah..... my brain is just fried tonight. So, no pretty posts from me, but since this is already a random post with something pretty random in it I'll leave you with another random picture of how I feel right about now.

Because I can.

Random much?

Oh and how many times did I just say random?.... just further proof of just how much I need to be in bed.

Isn't that a funny word?... random, random, random, random........... what does it even mean?

ran·dom

–adjective

1. proceeding, made, or occurring without definite purpose, reason, or objective

Yep, that sounds about right to me!

Okay, no more now, I promise.

Random!

Yes, I am aware that I have the sense of humour of a 6 year old..... and I'm okay with it.

I came across this hilarious quote, and I just have to share it. It's a bit silly, but I am incredibly tired (teething baby) and I just LOVED it!

Ready?....

To err is human but to arr is pirate.

You're welcome.

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Yesterday was my Mum's birthday. I went out for dinner with Mum, Dad and my sisters while Shane stayed home with Georgie. I had had a really bad day with her and was super stressed so I was really grateful to him but I was also a little worried about how she would go for him as she has been very grumpy lately with lots of green poo- Also why does nobody tell you about how much you are going to have to watch what you eat when you breastfeed? Poor Georgie and I have learned the hard way about what I can and cannot eat, and we're still learning!

But anyway, while I was out I texted Shane asking if everything was okay, this is the sms I got back:

"Ur missing heaps! So far she has sat up, started to crawl, she then began to walk, little bugger then saddled up the pup rode around the back yard then did a back flip stopped, n said dad stop sending mummy silly text messages! All is good, have fun!"

Georgie, I love your Dad so much, he is a hilarious wonderful man. He loves you very much.
