Waiting

We've been a little busy round these parts lately. Last weekend saw us off to the city.

Shane went off to ride bikes with my brother-in-law. He has become a bit of a biking enthusiast, and on Sunday he did a 50km mountain bike race. He had never actually ridden 50km before, was getting over a cold, and wasn't quite sure if he could actually do it... but he did! I am just a little bit proud of him.

Buggered... also, hot!

The small girl did her EEG test and she was an absolute angel. She sat and read books, and we sang songs, and played with puzzles for a whole hour while she had lots of wires stuck to her head. We won't have the results for two weeks, and they still may not show anything... but in the meantime she has had no more seizures, so we'll just wait and see how we go. She has still been very unwell though, and this week has been one filled with cuddles (which is so unlike her) and she has not been sleeping very well at all, which means I am also incredibly tired. But she does seem to be acting more like herself today.

We spent a lot of time wandering around beautiful spring gardens while we were away, and were lucky enough to be stopped by a local newspaper photographer while we were taking some photos for ourselves, and he took a couple of beautiful shots. Georgie and Shane even ended up on the front page of Monday's paper!

I am a little bit in love with a couple of those pictures. Who knew we could look so good?

Hopefully, soon they will be able to figure out what is going on with Georgie, and we can get life back into a more comfortable rhythm.  We are happy, and everything's fine. But I know I have an awful lot of nervous tension just beneath the surface. I feel like I'm waiting for the knife to fall, or for the other shoe to drop. Or something.

This morning I found myself lying on the floor being a mummy-shaped jungle gym for my two monkeys. As Georgie bounced on my tummy, and I laughed (all the while being hyper-aware of the baby boy being who very close to biting my leg) I couldn't figure out why I wasn't happier, more content, and I couldn't quite keep the tears from forming.

I don't know what I am waiting for, what needs to happen. But I wish very much it would happen soon.

My cup? It runneth over...

I am living the haze of the sleep-deprived, hormonal, moody, exhausted, slightly neurotic, just-had-a-baby, Mother. I have so much to do, and am so tired, and I should really be sleeping instead of sittting here at the computer. But I just wanted to say this:

I am beyond grateful. For these people, my people. Shane, Georgie and Charlie. My world is so small, but so precious. At times it feels like they are taking everything from me... but I wouldn't change this. It is absolutely priceless. These days, although they may be hard, are what it's all about.

I am so glad for what I have.

I am also so grateful for the people around me who are keeping me up. My husband, who is doing his best, even though he bears the brunt of my hormonal outbursts. My sisters, who are helping in so many ways. And my Mum. She is doing so much for our little family, and so much for me. I am so grateful for the Mother I was blessed with. I hope I can be such a Mother one day. She has just been taking care of me, in so many ways. I cannot thank her enough. Words just can't express it.

To everyone who is helping keep out little family going at the moment,

Linking up with Kate for Thankful Thursdays.

Father's Day: Lesson Learned

For Fathers Day this year, I decided to take and frame a cute photo of Georgie. I had a really cool, creative idea in my head, it was a great idea, but really hard to execute! Here's how it went.

Okay Mum, I'm here... why?
Oooh Look!
Almost smiling....
Now I'll stand up and try to pull it off the wall
I've had enough now!!

Finally we got a keeper! It's not exactly the designer shot I had in mind,
but she's smiling and that's all that counts!

Lesson learned: It's generally a silly idea to try and get a 14 month old baby to smile in a specific pose. But we got there in the end! Oh and if you are ever silly enough to try something similar- get a friend to help! Or else holding them in place with your foot tickling them can also work! Oh, and I definitely don't see a career in photography in my future...

Happy Father's Day Shane!

Wedding Anniversary

Yesterday was our fifth wedding anniversary. We went out for dinner at my favourite restaurant and it was so good! It's funny, we've been a bit snappy and grumpy with each other lately, and it's amazing how much better you feel just from having a night out! Georgie was babysat by her Aunty Lizzie- and she wasn't too upset, and it was just lovely.

I am so glad that I have been married to Shane for the past five years. I couldn't imagine life without him. I've known him for seven and a half years, and he isn't perfect. He still leaves his clothes on the floor sometimes instead of putting them in the laundry basket, and I don't think that, in five years of marriage, he has ever cleaned the toilet. But he loves me, and, in the words of Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice...

"He truly is the best man I have ever known."

Happy Fathers Day Shane!

Tomorrow it is Fathers Day, so I've been up a little late getting things nice for tomorrow. The house is nice and I ironed Shane's clothes so they're all ready for church in the morning. The poor boy worked today from 4am until 6pm, and then drove back from the town he was working at which was a 2 hour drive. Plus it was raining and storming- so not a good drive. I was praying heaps for him to get home safe, I really don't know what I would do if something bad ever happened to him. As soon as Shane walked through the door he picked up Georgie (who was rather grizzly) and cuddled her for about half an hour.

Georgie, your Dad really couldn't love you more.

I bought Shane a lovely children's book called "My Daddy thinks he's funny" I thought it was so cute and a great present. I had no idea what to get him, but my sister Cathy came up with the idea- she's brilliant. I never know what to get people, and I would love to have the gift of being able to get people really wonderful presents. I am determined to start Christmas shopping soon, so that I can get on top of it early and buy people things that they actually want and like, and not just bestow useless junk upon them like I normally do.

Just so you don't think that everything in my life is all sunshine and roses, I'll let you know that I've actually had a horrible week. I've been really tired, my hormones have been all over the place, I just want to do something exciting and different, and I've been taking it out on poor Shane. Plus, on Tuesday I got the Implanon birth control rod inserted in my arm, and for the next few days I think my milk must have changed a bit, because Georgie really wasn't fussed on it. But I'll see how things go.

Also I'm getting really sick of having to eat plain boring bland food. It's been 9 weeks now, and I really want something spicy or even just an orange- but poor Georgie just reacts so badly with alot of things I have to keep my diet really simple. Georgie, I love you and you are worth it, but sometimes I would love to give you a bottle for a day, just so I could go have yummy chinese or something! But I really do believe that breastfeeding is better for you, even if it does hurt and can be difficult, it still is much easier than having to worry about sterilizing bottles!

Anyway, enough rambling, I really should go to bed, Goodnight.

Happy Birthday Grandma!

Yesterday was my Mum's birthday. I went out for dinner with Mum, Dad and my sisters while Shane stayed home with Georgie. I had had a really bad day with her and was super stressed so I was really grateful to him but I was also a little worried about how she would go for him as she has been very grumpy lately with lots of green poo- Also why does nobody tell you about how much you are going to have to watch what you eat when you breastfeed? Poor Georgie and I have learned the hard way about what I can and cannot eat, and we're still learning!

But anyway, while I was out I texted Shane asking if everything was okay, this is the sms I got back:

"Ur missing heaps! So far she has sat up, started to crawl, she then began to walk, little bugger then saddled up the pup rode around the back yard then did a back flip stopped, n said dad stop sending mummy silly text messages! All is good, have fun!"

Georgie, I love your Dad so much, he is a hilarious wonderful man. He loves you very much.
